7 Trends for furniture e-commerce success in 2024

Technology investments such as 3D product visualization, product recommendations, augmented reality, AI for customer support, etc., are a must — especially 3D product visualization. But to me, the largest investment manufacturers need to make is with their product content.
Gone are the days when your website is your primary discovery search tool. Why? Because social media is fast becoming the primary search tool for virtually everything — product recommendations, unique furniture styles, and functions, like how to do things, where to go, and even apartment tours.
People do not search “furniture or furniture stores near me” like they used to. Now, they are searching for unique items with function, small space furniture, and other specific search needs.
Social media has quickly become the sales funnel path that your social media followers go through, from discovering your product on social media to making a purchase. Websites are quickly becoming more obsolete as a stand-alone destination. They are merely a shopping tool, not a browsing tool. Our target markets are engaging with content on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, and even Reddit.
Social commerce is projected to be an $11.1 trillion market by 2030. Welcome to the new web frontier where content is commerce everywhere in search, and community is the currency.
Another trend is small space living. New apartment construction will reach a historic peak as 420,000 new units are expected nationwide. In fact, multifamily construction in the last two years is at a 50-year high. Apartment completions last surpassed the 400,000 unit mark in 1972. The average apartment is around 1,200 sq. ft. with a rent of $1,500- $2,200.
With that said, as a furniture and home furnishing retailer, what are your plans to promote products for small space living? You better start “tagging” your products for this factual trend/segment. People are buying “pieces,” not rooms anymore, so embrace the trend
