Let me start this off.
I ABSOLUTLEY HATE DIGITAL NOISE & CLUTTER
Let's face it, today, most retail traffic and business sucks. Let’s call it like it is. You need to mix it up and get in your consumer’s face. (I still firmly believe in digital, but you must have the right mix, and if print isn't in the mix....well...).
Oh, I recall the times when everyone used to receive printed inserts through the mail every week or month.
Currently, I receive inserts regularly from City Furniture, Rooms To Go, Wayfair, and other major retailers almost every week or bi-weekly, and that’s just furniture. (Both RTG & City got me with their print, between them I spent close to $5K when I moved here)
Recently, I got a beautifully crafted 24-page booklet from City Furniture promoting their Outdoor Category. That had to cost them some serious $$$. Just the fact they made that kind of investment, must make you think, right? (Ya, I get it, it’s winter in most places, but It's 81 degrees today where I live in SWFL).
The reason for this shift is clear: it's due to digital noise and clutter.
Like many others, I find that about 95% of email solicitations go straight to my trash folder. Even if they make it to my inbox, around 90% of those emails are filtered to be trashed in the future.
Unsolicited emails, Pop-up ads, and Search Intrusion are things I detest, and I believe almost everyone feels the same way.
City Furniture, Rooms To Go, Wayfair, and many other companies are aware of this trend. To cut through the digital noise and clutter, they rely on the fact that 98% of people check their mailbox daily and 77% sort through their mail immediately. (And if you have these in your store, virtually everyone will pick it up to check out your specials, etc.)

Despite the allure of cost-effective email marketing, let's face the facts: the average response rate is a mere 0.6% - disappointingly low.
